Lil Wayne's new CD sells 423,000 in a day

NEW YORK - The excessive leaks and bootlegging of Lil Wayne’s new album haven’t prevented it from being a hot seller: The rapper’s "Tha Carter III" sold 423,000 copies in its first day of release, according to Billboard magazine, citing figures from Nielsen SoundScan.
With such sales, Lil Wayne is on pace to sell about 900,000 copies of the CD in its first week and post the best sales debut of the year. Last year’s first-week top-seller was from Kanye West, who sold some 957,000 copies of "Graduation."
Though Lil Wayne has been on the rap scene for years, "Tha Carter III," released Tuesday, was expected to be the album that catapults the critically acclaimed rapper into pop superstardom. Ubiquitous on mixtapes and a frequent collaborator, he has owned the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 pop chart for the past few weeks with his song "Lollipop," and "Tha Carter III" is among this year’s most anticipated CDs.

His last two albums, "Tha Carter" and "Tha Carter II," sold 1.1 million and 1.4 million copies, respectively.
The release date for "Tha Carter III" was pushed back several times because the album was frequently leaked and bootlegged.
The year’s best first-week seller so far was posted by Mariah Carey. Her "EMC2" sold about 463,000 in the first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Paul Newman - Newman Doing Nicely Says Rep

LATEST: Movie veteran PAUL NEWMAN has been forced to issue a statement after speculation about his failing health reached new highs - with reports suggesting he's battling lung cancer.

Tabloid stories earlier this year (08) suggested the beloved star and humanitarian had just six months to live and was under hospital supervision, but the actor laughed off the rumours, insisting his medical crisis was nothing more than treatment of athlete's foot and "hair loss".

And fears for the star's health were further heightened after lifestyle guru Martha Stewart posted a recent photograph of herself and Newman on her website earlier this week (begs02Jun08), which showed the actor appearing frail and in ill health.

Now, the star's representative Jeff Sanderson has contacted the media to ease the mounting concern over the actor's wellbeing, insisting Newman is "doing nicely".

Sanderson told reporters on Tuesday (10Jun08) he had been instructed to pass on the message by Newman himself, but declined to elaborate on specific details of Newman's current health situation.

On Monday (09Jun08), the Los Angeles Times reported the 83-year-old has reportedly been diagnosed with "terminal lung cancer" at New York's Sloan-Kettering Center, where Newman is currently receiving outpatient treatment.

A spokesperson for the hospital said they had no information about whether Newman was a patient there, according to online reports.

Before the seeds of the Flower Kings were planted, Kings' guitarist/vocalist Roine Stolt was working in the band Kaipa. The isthmus was originally formed under the name Ura Kaipa by Hans Lundin (keys) and Tomas Eriksson (bass) in 1973. The duo had worked together previously in San Micheals and for this project recruited Thomas Sjoberg on drums. Illness forced Sjoberg to leave behind the group the following year, though. His successor was Ingemar Bergman. Stolt linked the band in 1974 besides, shortly later on they had cut the "Ura" from the name of the ring. Their self-titled debut handout, with a cover adorned by a ikon painted by Stolt, was released the following class. Their sophomore oblation, Inget Nytt Under Solen, was recorded and released in 1976. Late in 1977, Eriksson left the band, merely that was surely non to be the last lineup variety for the year. Indeed, the group chose to add a leash singer in the personage of Mats Lofgren. They besides replaced Ericksson with Mats Lindberg before the class was over. Their succeeding disk was 1978's Solo.

By this peak, forces were working to pull the ring apart, and in 1979 Stolt left the group. His successor was Max Ahman. This lineup of the band recorded their following record album, Hander, late in 1979 for a 1980 handout. Throughout 1980, the group went through many problems, though. First they added Torkel Thyrell on bass, just the lineup suffered a serious blow when Lofgren left the group. His successor came in the form of a female, Anne Chaaban. However, neither of the deuce raw recruits was to remain with the mathematical group past November of that same class. In an unusual turn of events, the group recruited Mats Lindberg to supplant Thyrell. However, this Lindberg only bore the same appoint as their premature bassist, only was not the like adult male. Before 1981 was through, Bergman would leave behind the group. So, Kaipa was looking for a new drummer. They establish the substitute in Pelle Andersson. That grouping released the album Nattdjurstid late in 1982. It would rise to be the last for a retentive time. In fact, the band distinct to consider a break up from all the strong shape, simply that smash selfsame nigh became a permanent unmatchable. They would not operate together again until the year 2001 when they re-formed to platter their Notes From the Past album. That record (released in 2002) featured a lineup composed of Lundin, Stolt, Morgan Agren, Patrik Lundström, and Jonas Reingold (world Health Organization Stolt industrial plant with in the Flower Kings).
